The five finalists have been found

The five finalists for this year's Cphbusiness Internship of the Year 2020 have been selected.

07 April 2020

Thank you to all the students who have nominated their internship for this year's Cphbusiness Internship of the Year!

The five finalists for this year's Cphbusiness Internship of the Year have been selected among 50 nominations from former and current students who have been doing their internship during the fall of 2019 or the spring of 2020.

The 50 nominations have been narrowed down by a panel of internship counsellors at Cphbusiness. The result is the five internships that are now in the final.

This year, Cphbusiness Internship of the Year is held online due to the corona situation.

The five finalists

This year’s five finalists are:

  • Maria Vinther, Bachelor's Degree Programme in International Sales and Marketing (Danish), Plutonic Media ApS
  • Mie Louise Nielsen, AP Degree in Marketing Management (Danish), Business Danmark
  • Julie Blicher Jensen, AP Degree in Multimedia Design (Danish), Danfilter
  • Nicolai Petersen, AP Degree in Service, Hospitality and Tourism Management (Danish), Statum
  • Mikkel Steinlein, AP Degree in Financial Management (Danish), Arbejdernes Landsbank

Common for all internships is that the internship companies have treated the interns as an investment and future employment. During the internship, all five finalists have had a great influence on their work tasks, and the internship companies have considered the period valuable.

The five finalists have, this year as well as the previous years, experienced the optimal synthesis of theory and practice. The theory acquired in school have been used directly during the internship period - something that the business academies are known for.

The winner of this year's Cphbusiness Internship of the Year will be found on 20 April 2020.

This year, the Business Academy Internship of the Year 2020, where all the local winners from all the business academies should have pitched in a national final, is unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19.

Meet the finalists

In the list below you can meet all five finalists and learn more about each of their internships.

  • Maria Vinther, Bachelor's Degree Programme in International Sales and Marketing (Danish), Plutonic Media ApS

    Name: Maria Vinther

Study programme: Bachelor's Degree Programme in International Sales and Marketing (Danish)

    Internship company: Plutonic Media ApS

An extract from Maria Vinther's nomination:

My internship took my education to the next level. I used the theoretical knowledge from the study programme in practice. Together with the three partners, I formed the overall marketing strategy for Plutonic Media ApS, and for the first time I had the opportunity to see the actions being executed.

    ...

All the way through, I have had the freedom to create new ideas, and these ideas have always been met with excitement and concrete ways of implementation. It has been extremely motivating to implement my own ideas and to see these projects grow and become something big that has made a difference for the company.

Plutonic Media ApS has been extremely pleased with Maria as an intern, and one of the Partners, Loui Kiær, says following about the internship:

    - When we got Maria on board, I had not in my wildest imagination thought that in just a few months she would do everything from SEO to Facebook advertising, content, marketing automation and launching outdoor campaigns all over Copenhagen. It has been a pleasure as internship company to have Maria, who possesses the dedication and the ability to develop herself and maintain a big responsibility.

Cphbusiness' panel of internship counsellors justifies the choice of Maria Vinther's internship this way:

Maria has completed her internship at Plutonic Media ApS. The company is a startup, and because of that Maria has (as the first intern) been given a lot of responsibility from the beginning, which she really likes. Maria has felt very welcome and as an equal in the company. She has been a part of a very ambitious team consisting of the three partners, where she has had the opportunity to be a part of the company's growth from scratch.

Despite of being an intern, Maria has always had the feeling that the management invested in her as an employee. They have done their best to give her the knowledge and resources required to make her ready for the labour market.

Because of the great experience, Maria has said yes to continue her career at Plutonic Media ApS.

  • Mie Louise Nielsen, AP Degree in Marketing Management (Danish), Business Danmark

    Name: Mie Louise Nielsen

Study programme: AP Degree in Marketing Management (Danish)

    Internship company: Business Danmark

Professionally, I have become better at expressing my knowledge and ideas instead of keeping them to myself. The internship company has been really open and has let me try out my ideas. I have managed to show off my skills within sales, which have resulted in me being named "Seller of the week" week after week, and that is a huge boost.

    ...

As an intern, my words have been just as respected as any other employee's, and we have had teambuilding. My contact person and I worked out a plan for the whole period with study deadlines and a career plan. Business Danmark has taken great responsibility for my development.

This is how Mie Louise Nielsen describes her internship at Business Danmark in her nomination for Cphbusiness Internship of the Year 2020.

Business Danmark experiences great value in having interns, and Mie’s internship has not been an exception, describes Jonathan Storm Krebs, Head of Career Start, who actually started as an intern himself:

    - Mie started in a department that is built and run by former interns with a strong culture in supporting a win win internship. Mie, as a person, is perfect for our department. She is self-motivated and has a great drive, while at the same time she does every task with a great effort, not only in terms of customer experience but with every task we have given her.

The internship was selected by Cphbusiness' panel of internship counsellors because of the following reasons:

From day one Mie was involved in the daily tasks as an equal employee. Business Danmark has organized a 14 days long introduction program including both social and professional elements, and the internship company made sure the challenges and work tasks were appropriate for Mie.

Mie's contact person took the school deadlines into consideration and made a plan together with Mie for the whole period. They had regularly 1:1 conversations with Mie and focused on her development and well-being.

Mie has added on to her already existing competencies from the study programme, and Business Danmark has had a big part in that Mie now finishing her studies with a belief in herself and a real life experience of the interaction between theory and practice.

  • Julie Blicher Jensen, AP Degree in Multimedia Design (Danish), Danfilter

    Name: Julie Blicher Jensen

Study programme: AP Degree in Multimedia Design (Danish)

An extract from Julie Blicher Jensen's nomination:

From the beginning there was a focus on what I would like to gain from the internship and because of that I had a big influence on which projects I was given. It gave me a lot of freedom to be open from the beginning, and I tried different things, which I had not expected beforehand.

    ...

I have learned to work together as a team in a real company and how you develop projects together. I have gotten to know a lot of new systems, which I definitely can use in the future.

According to Digital Marketing Manager in Danfilter, Michelle D. Andersen, it has been a great pleasure to have Julie Blicher Jensen as an intern at Danfilter, she says:

    - Julie's task has primarily been to make a complete redesign of our B2B website, and besides that, Julie has solved different tasks across the company and been in contact with partners. Julie has been an equal employee to us in the internship period and she blended right in. We are looking forward to continuing our work with Julie, when she returns as a student assistant in Danfilter's marketing department.

Cphbusiness' panel of internship counsellors justifies the choice of Julie Blicher Jensen's internship this way:

During her internship Julie has had the opportunity to try out the theory that she has gained from the first three semesters of her study programme. Danfilter has provided many opportunities for Julie to work with different problems and projects - matching the courses of the Multimedia Design study.

The internship has helped Julie figure out what she would like to work with in the future, and Danfilter has been responsible for Julie getting such a good insight into the company.

  • Nicolai Petersen, AP Degree in Service, Hospitality and Tourism Management (Danish), Statum

    Name: Nicolai Petersen

Study programme: AP Degree in Service, Hospitality and Tourism Management (Danish)

    Internship company: Statum

From day one, I was given responsibility which I never would have dreamed of. After three weeks, I was at my first customer meeting, and the client is still my customer this day. My customer portfolio has gotten bigger ever since, and I really grew with that trust and responsibility.

    ...

Personally, I have become more extrovert, and Statum has given me a lot of opportunities. The mentality in the internship company is something I have never experienced before - you are encouraged to ask questions in order to optimise everything we do. I have been a part of developing processes and initiated ideas, and I cannot wait to pass on what Statum has given me.

This is how Nicolai Petersen describes his internship at Statum in his nomination for Cphbusiness Internship of the Year 2020.

The internship was selected by Cphbusiness' panel of internship counsellors because of the following reasons:

At Statum, Nicolai has had an extraordinary learning experience which will play a big role in his future career. He has been given responsibilities, and during the internship period Nicolai has developed his own title and role thanks to his proactiveness and attitude.

During the internship, Nicolai has become more aware of his own competencies, and being a part of a startup/scaleup is a great motivational factor to him.

Nicolai is responsible for the next intern at Statum and is already looking forward to passing on a lot of knowledge to that person. Statum has from day one involved Nicolai in customer meetings and has given him the opportunity to present and implement his own ideas.

    ...

All customers are different, and because of that I have learned new things all the time. I never would have dreamt of being in this position, if I look back. The social aspect has been a huge factor, and there is a big focus on everyone's well-being in every department. Despite of a busy work week, the well-being of every employee is important.

Arbejdernes Landsbank was impressed with Mikkel Steinlein's way of approaching new tasks. Gitte Dia, the Department Manager, describes his internship with these words:

    - We were so lucky to have Mikkel as an intern, and during the 12 weeks Mikkel got acquainted with tasks that normally only trainees get to. Mikkel was ready to face challenges with an exceptionally personal commitment In a very short time, he became a valuable asset to us, and because of that we are so pleased to have him continuing his work with us in a full-time trainee position.

Cphbusiness' panel of internship counsellors justifies the choice of Mikkel Steinlein's internship this way:

In his internship period Mikkel got the opportunity to use the theory from his study programme to a great extent. With the right attitude Mikkel has expanded his professional competencies. His department and the management have had a great trust in giving him difficult tasks at a level of trained counsellors.

All of this responsibility and the big expectations from the customers have challenged him and that suits him.
